The ERANET-RegSys project started to develop solutions to create digital twins from information resulting from energy performance certification of buildings. Such data about the building hull and the energy converters is used to optimize the carbon intensity in a Model Predictive Control. But such an optimization not only needs access to previous EPC data input, but is also in need of temperature and solar irradiation prognosis and the actual building temperature. For solving the first problems we investigated the storage of the building data in a QR-Code, but the limitations in size need to use a link to centrally stored data for larger buildings. For the provision of weather and solar prognosis', we did not find an affordable service, and propose local retailers, for example energy agencies, which could profit from the connection to clients. Finally, yet importantly, the building temperature shall be retrieved from networked thermostats, having also some in wall measurements for heavy buildings. Currently, in the Berlin pilot, also an approach of integrating MPC into PID-control is developed avoiding overheating due to larger solar gains. Including domestic hot water storage and using forecast for CO2-intensity in the energy delivered, we can increase CO2 savings, same with central storage for solar thermal energy in the district heating subnetwork. By communicating the optimized energy demand to the network energy management system, this central MPC is profiting with regard to the solar yield. So we think digitalization of district heating sub-networks is an important step towards decarbonization of the building sector. In other pilots the same approach is exploited for the power sector. |
