Tools for an Energy Efficient Cloud
 - TEEC 2019

3 - 5 May, 2019 - Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Within the 8th International Conference on Smart Cities and Green ICT Systems - SMARTGREENS 2019

CHAIR

Karim Djemame
University of Leeds
United Kingdom

Brief Bio
Dr. Karim Djemame is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing at the University of Leeds (UK). He sits on a number of international programme committees for Grid/Cloud middleware, computer networks and performance evaluation. He is currently the Scientific and Technical Manager of the EU-funded project and TANGO (Transparent heterogeneous hardware Architecture deployment for eNergy Gain in Operation), which address the issues of energy efficiency in clouds and heterogeneous parallel architectures environments. He had previously led many research projects including the Leeds element of the e-Science DAME project with industrial partners, Rolls-Royce, Data Systems & Solutions, Cybula, and its follow-on projects BROADEN, GridPPT, ISQoS, EKT-SLA, and STRAPP, looking at Grid/Cloud systems architecture, resource brokering and performance issues. He was also Principal Investigator of the EU-funded projects AssessGrid, OPTIMIS and ASCETiC. The main research area of Dr. Djemame is distributed systems, including system architectures, energy efficiency, resource management, and performance evaluation.

SCOPE

The special session aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, system administrators, software developers, and others interested in the latest advances of energy efficient clouds. Special focus will be on novel methods and tools to support software developers aiming to optimise energy efficiency and minimise the carbon footprint resulting from designing, developing, deploying and running software at the different layers of the Cloud computing stack. We call on to researchers and professionals to present their latest work on addressing such related challenges and to share their experiences and best practices in the deployment of such systems. We particularly welcome papers on relevant software engineering approaches and practical guidance on enterprise-wide software deployment in the cloud environment, together with real-world case studies, as well as the new generation of Utility Computing, including edge computing.

Topics of interest include:
1. Requirements engineering of energy-aware cloud-based applications
2. Design modelling of of energy-aware cloud-based applications
3. Energy-oriented tooling for Cloud developers
4. Cloud computing patterns
5. Energy aware cloud service life cycle
6. Energy aware programming
7. Energy aware Modelling
8. Cloud Programming Models
9. Green Service Level Agreements
10. Self-adaptive cloud architectures
11. Infrastructure management
12. Energy aware storage management
13. Energy aware network management
14. Cloud economics
15. Fog and edge computing
16. Microservices
